Description
AICAR (5-Aminoimidazole-4-carboxamide Ribonucleotide) is a nucleotide analogue that activates AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) — the cell’s primary energy-sensing enzyme — making it one of the original “exercise mimetic” research compounds, studied for reproducing some of AMPK-driven metabolic gene expression seen during physical exertion.
Because AICAR and SLU-PP-332 both fall under the exercise-mimetic research umbrella but act through different pathways (AMPK versus ERR receptors), researchers frequently study the two compounds together to compare how distinct energy-sensing mechanisms converge on overlapping metabolic gene programs.
