DSIP (Delta Sleep-Inducing Peptide) is a naturally occurring nonapeptide first isolated from rabbit cerebral venous blood, studied for its association with delta-wave (deep) sleep states. Despite the name, its exact receptor and mechanism remain incompletely characterised in the literature, which is itself part of why DSIP continues to attract sleep-physiology research interest.
Current research use spans circadian-rhythm and stress-response models in addition to sleep-architecture studies, since DSIP has also been reported to interact with HPA-axis signalling in some experimental contexts.
