Description
PT-141 (Bremelanotide) is a synthetic α-MSH analogue and metabolite of Melanotan 2, but selectively targeting the MC4R receptor rather than the broader MC1/MC3/MC4 activity of its parent compound. That selectivity is the entire research rationale for PT-141: isolating the MC4R-mediated sexual-response pathway away from the pigmentation and appetite effects seen with MT-2.
Because it’s a direct downstream metabolite of Melanotan 2, PT-141 is frequently studied alongside MT-2 in structure-activity research examining how receptor selectivity within the melanocortin family maps onto distinct physiological effects.
