Description

SS-31 (Elamipretide) is a synthetic tetrapeptide designed to concentrate specifically in the inner mitochondrial membrane, where it’s studied for interactions with cardiolipin — a phospholipid essential to the electron transport chain. That targeted mitochondrial localisation is what separates SS-31 from broader metabolic compounds like NAD+ or MOTS-c: it acts directly at the membrane structure rather than as a circulating coenzyme or signalling peptide.
