Description
Wegovy contains semaglutide, a GLP-1 receptor agonist licensed for chronic weight management in adults with a body mass index (BMI) of 30 or above, or 27 or above with a weight-related condition such as high blood pressure or type 2 diabetes.
Semaglutide works by mimicking the naturally occurring GLP-1 hormone, which slows gastric emptying and signals fullness to the brain, helping to reduce appetite. Wegovy is administered as a once-weekly self-injection alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity.
Wegovy is a prescription-only medicine. Eligibility is assessed through a medical questionnaire reviewed by our clinical team, and a prescription is issued only where it is clinically appropriate for you. Dosing is increased gradually over several weeks under clinical guidance to help manage side effects such as nausea. Do not start, stop, or change your dose without direction from your prescriber.
