Description
Ara-290 (Cibinetide) is a synthetic peptide derived from the structure of erythropoietin (EPO) but engineered to eliminate EPO’s blood-cell-stimulating activity while retaining its tissue-protective signalling through the innate repair receptor (a heterodimer of EPO receptor and CD131). That deliberate split is the entire point of the compound: isolating EPO’s neuroprotective and anti-inflammatory effects from its haematological ones.
Because it separates these two activities, Ara-290 is studied specifically in neuropathic pain and inflammation research where researchers want EPO-pathway tissue protection without the red-blood-cell effects relevant to standard EPO research.
