Description
MT-1 (Melanotan I / afamelanotide) is a synthetic analogue of alpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone (α-MSH), studied for its selective activation of the MC1 receptor — the specific melanocortin receptor subtype responsible for melanogenesis (pigment production) in skin cells. Its receptor selectivity is the key research distinction from MT-2, which activates a broader range of melanocortin receptors.
Because MT-1 targets MC1R more selectively than MT-2, it’s the reference compound researchers use when studying pigmentation pathways specifically, without the additional MC3R/MC4R activity (linked to appetite and sexual-response signalling) that complicates interpretation of MT-2 studies.
For laboratory research use only. Reconstitute with bacteriostatic water and store refrigerated, protected from light.
